"Help! My child's adult teeth are coming in behind baby teeth - what should I do?" Answer: This is a VERY common occurrence with children, usually the result of a lower, primary (baby) tooth not falling out when the permanent tooth is coming in; this is known as 'shark teeth'. In most cases if the child starts wiggling the baby tooth, it will usually fall out on its own within two months. If it doesn't then contact your pediatric dentist, where they can easily remove the child's tooth. The permanent tooth should then slide into proper place.

Teething Tips to Help Your Baby Feel Better! *Gently rub your baby's gums with a clean, wet gauze, your finger or a small, cool spoon. *Give them a clean, chilled (not frozen) teething ring- but don't dip it in anything sweet or in other foods. *If your baby is still cranky and uncomfortable contact their dentist or pediatrician. *Do NOT use benzocaine- containing over-the-counter teething products (Orajel, Anbesol, etc.) and some prescription products to soothe sore gums in your children. These products can cause serious reactions- visit: fda.gov.
