Amazon review: "We've all seen the picture, the teeny, tiny girl flanked by giant white men. This little girl's photograph haunted me as a white child in the early 60s. I always wondered how she must have felt, and hoped the adults surrounding her were kind, and good with children! I enjoyed reading behind the scenes, the true story--through little Ruby's eyes!" -Gutsy Mamma

Amazon review: "Bought this to read to my 6 year old, and it's such a great story. It is a bit lengthy- my son has the patience and attention span for it. It's a great story, and teaches an important lesson especially given current events. It's a great way to promote discussion on these topics, particularly for children like mine who have had it pretty dang easy in life." -Ley-z1

Amazon review: "One of the best. Read this at the library last year for Black History Month and had to buy it this year so my son can read it anytime. Nice perspective and not too detailed or scary for the younger ones. Puts it on their level for better understanding." -Justthe2ofus

Amazon review: "This compellingly written and marvelously illustrated book belongs on the bookshelf of four to eight-year-old children from all walks of life. On beautifully laid out pages, the well-chosen words run in harmony with inspiring drawings that together bring to life the amazing story of Ethel Payne, the First Lady of the Black Press. I should know. I wrote the only full-length adult biography of Payne." -James

Amazon review: "I am a second grade teacher and this book introduces the sensitive topic to kids in an easy to understand simple way. My favorite part of this book is that the author includes discussion questions for teachers and families to use to help guide their conversations with their students. Highly recommend this book to anyone looking to understand and learn more about racism. Great for kids and adults alike." -Kellee

Amazon review: "The author had a up close view of the civil rights. I love how she told this story from the perspective of a 13 year old black girl with a famous father." -Donna

Amazon review: "Fabulous little book for children of all ages! In today's world where grown-ups are demonstrating and waving placards at each other; this gentle little book shows how children just 'get it'. They accept each other for who they are as individuals; ignorant of creed, colour, race, beliefs and financial status. They, and this subtly-messaged book, can teach us all a thing or two. Brilliant for my diverse brood." -Amazon Customer

Amazon review: "This book did a good job introducing complex social issues and injustices on a level that my seven year old could understand. The book provided enough detail to serve as a springboard for further discussion without being so long that she lost interest in the subject." -CT
