The idea of a comprehensive arts festival celebrating the unprecedented cultural resources and arts programming in the Saratoga region began in 2001 when representatives from the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Skidmore College, Yaddo, the Saratoga County Arts Council, and other arts organizations came together to imagine an effort to promote all of the arts. In 2006, conversations coalesced into a plan that was broadly embraced by leaders from the arts, education, business, and government. A planning committee outlined a program and structure, pulling together community volunteers and dozens of organizations from across the region.
SaratogaArtsFest began in 2007 – a four-day celebration of the arts scheduled in June highlighting the brilliance and energy of art in its many forms—music, dance, visual art, film, theatre, and literary art. SaratogaArtsFest is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization managed by a Board of Directors, with an operations team comprised of community volunteers and professionals. SAF applauds all the leaders and volunteers who worked diligently and passionately on this festival each year.
The Arts Scene in Saratoga Spring has grown significantly and SAF is phasing out of the yearly festival and working on a new program, ArtsFestFriday, a program that will highlight the incredible Saratoga arts scene all year. ArtsFestFriday is an entertainment-filled reception/event each month that will be sponsored by SAF. The venues will vary monthly, as well as the arts partners and the art disciplines. The goals of ArtsFestFriday are to create a Multi-Genre, Multi-Generational event each month with an “Element of Surprise.” ArtsFestFriday will be a fun and enriching arts event for all. This program will begin in September 2015.
As part of SAF’s promotion of the local Arts Scene we are working to enlarge and enhance our coverage of the art events that abound in Saratoga Springs throughout the year. We will be adding more events every month as we work to include as many art groups as possible. Ars longa, vita Brevis – Art is long, life is brief.
