Hulafrog Mom: Jenny Craine, Hulafrog Aberdeen-Bel Air, MD
Kid’s Ages: 22 months old
Class Format: At home on Zoom
Outtakes: “I also find myself turning on music more for us to dance instead of the TV. I consider that a win!”
THE CLASS FORMAT WE CHOSE:
My 22 month year old daughter has never taken any type of structured class at all, so I was so excited to try Music Together with her! We did our classes virtually from home which was great.
INSPIRING A LOVE OF MUSIC:
I love to sing and dance and my daughter seems to really enjoy it just as much. She enjoys movies with songs in them, like Frozen (of course). She has a really strong interest in her musical toys as well, so I was assuming Music Together classes would be perfect for her.
OUR CLASS EXPERIENCE:
Our classes always started with the “Hello“ Song where everyone said hello to the others in class. The song included simple movements of the hands and repeating words. I liked that each class started with the same familiar song as kids love repetition.
WHAT WE LOVED ABOUT MUSIC TOGETHER:
I really enjoyed the variety of songs and movements during each class, as did my daughter. For some songs we used a shaker (we used a jar of sprinkles) or wooden spoons (my daughter’s favorite instrument!), while other songs had us up and moving around. Every once in a while my daughter would wander off, but most of the time she was very engaged with the class.
ONE OUTCOME? LESS TV & MORE MUSIC:
Our classes really encouraged me to sing with my daughter more, especially before bedtime and before nap time. I also find myself turning on music more for us to dance instead of the TV. I consider that a win!
ENGAGING IN OUR MUSIC TOGETHER CLASS:
MY FAVORITE MOMENT DURING CLASSES:
I absolutely loved that my daughter started picking up on the words of songs! It was clear the repetition of songs during classes really stuck with her. I would smile each time I heard her actually singing the words to songs we heard in class.
MUSIC IS NOW PART OF OUR DAY TO DAY:
As a result of taking Music Together classes, I have begun to sing to Jillian every night before bed. We even made up a song that we sing together - I make up the sounds and she chimes in. I love that our classes encouraged me to add a little music into our day to day lives!
I WOULD RECOMMEND THESE CLASSES TO A FRIEND:
I think Music Together classes are very engaging for a Zoom class and are just the right amount of time so that your toddler doesn’t lose interest. Since many families are staying home right now, it's the perfect way to enjoy an activity every week, in a safe way.
LOVED THAT IT WAS LAID BACK:
When Jillian was focused on the class, she got really into it. She tended to participate more when instruments were involved or the wording was simple “do do do” or “la la la.” Of course it was a challenge just to get her sitting sometimes, but I loved that it was “ok” to just let her do her thing.
