Carpinteria State Beach is an excellent white sand beach right in the city of Carpinteria. The beach is great for swimming, surf fishing, tidepool exploring and camping. Lifeguards patrol the beach year round while lifeguard towers are staffed roughly from memorial day weekend through labor day weekend. Seals and sea lions can be seen in the area December through May, as well as an occasional gray whale. Tidepools on the south end of the beach near the San Miguel Campground contain starfish, sea anemones, crabs, snails, octopi and sea urchins. And a lagoon at Carpinteria Creek in the center of the park is a great place for bird-watching.
The state beach starts at Linden Avenue and continues south to Tar Pits Beach at the south end of the park. In between these end points are several campgrounds with over 200 camping spots. At the day-use facility near Linden Avenue you’ll find all the amenities to enjoy a full day here and downtown Carpinteria is nearby with tons of great restaurants (including the famous The Spot burger shack) and shops. You can walk into the state park from Linden Avenue. If free street parking in that area is difficult to find or if you plan on camping here, the main park entrance is on Palm Avenue which you can find on Carpinteria Avenue south of Linden.
