CFT was incorporated in 2006 with a mission to provide theatre education and performance opportunity to children of all ages, all abilities and all walks of life.
Located, in West Hartford, CT, CFT is increasingly recognized as a leading teaching theatre in the state. From the beginner to the more advanced performer, there is something for everyone at CFT. Not only are we are place where children can learn about theatre but we are a place where children and their families experience an environment where they are welcomed, accepted for who they are and, most of all, they are family. We take pride in the fact that the majority of our students have been with us since we first opened our doors. These students, who, just six years ago, walked on stage for the very first time, are now wonderful role models and mentors to our newer students, now taking their first steps.
At CFT we strive to provide an atmosphere where our students are challenged and respected for their hard work and dedication towards their craft. We are so fortunate to have a group of amazing adult artists, teachers, board members and volunteers that are committed to our mission and who spend countless hours helping CFT maintain the highest level of professionalism. These special people inspire our students to do the same. In quoting comments about our musicals produced twice a year: “Simply amazing”, “The most professional youth production I’ve ever see”, “Visually stunning”, “Every child on that stage was so expressive and engaged. They are really acting!” “Amazing voices”, “You forget that they are kids up there!”. We do raise the bar high at CFT and our staff and students soar above it every time.
Many students have taken what they have learned at CFT and have gone on to perform in commercials, in film and even on Broadway. Many have also gone or are going on to study their craft in college, some majoring in theatre and music education. We are proud and we are humbled, knowing that we inspired them to challenge themselves, to take risks, to become teachers themselves and, most of all, to follow their passion. We strongly believe that, whether our students choose pursue careers in the performing arts or not, the skills they gain: teamwork, leadership, commitment, public speaking, self-expression, creative thinking, to name a just a few, will last a lifetime.
