Before your schedule hits holiday overload, here are some cool ways to remind your littles that sometimes giving is better (and more fun) than receiving. Especially this time of year. Fourteen of Hulafrog's Managing Editors share their fave ideas for getting kids into the give-back groove.
What to do with all those art "masterpieces" created by the kiddos? Send them along to an elderly person to brighten their day. Bonus: frees up space on your refrigerator door!

All kids have a favorite blankie! Take some time and make no-sew fleece blankets for Project Linus. It's an easy way for your family to make something together and help kids who just need a blanket of their own to hold.
Colleen Seldin, Hulafrog Red Bank, NJ, & mom of two
Each month, my kids and I pick up some non-perishable foods to donate to our local food pantry. For so many families, food pantries offer food and assistance year round, especially close to the holidays.
Sarah Calatayud, Hulafrog West Hartford, CT, & mom of two
Extend the celebration when your kid's birthday comes. Create a "birthday box" to send to a child whose family doesn't have extra money for festivities. You fill it with cake mix, streamers, and a small gift so that they have a special day of their own.
Alana Moran, Hulafrog West Chester, PA, & mom of two
Serving a meal at a soup kitchen is so rewarding. The guests are so grateful and kids feel that they are helping people right in the community. A hot meal and a smile can truly brighten someone's day.
Amy Haggard, Hulafrog Ridgewood-Paramus, NJ, & mom of two
Still have DVDs in your cabinet? Grab the kids and go through your collection. Decide which ones you've outgrown and send them to Kids Flicks. They distribute them to pediatric hospitals nationwide.
Sarah Mendenhall, Hulafrog Scottsdale, & mom of two
Active.com's Directory of Charitable Races
What's better than getting exercise? Doing it for a good cause! Check out Active.com for a local fun run in your area. Your family will get a great workout and support a local charity at the same time. Always a win-win.
Kerri McCorkill, Hulafrog Mansfield-Attleboro, MA, & mom of three
Box of Joy invites families to fill a shoebox with small gifts for a boy or girl overseas. My kids love picking out items they think other kids will enjoy, and I love that they learn that giving is fun.
Evie Estes, Hulafrog Cincinnati Eastside, OH, & mom of three
Brooke's Healing Heart Foundation
This foundation, started by my cousin's daughter, makes and delivers healing pillows to children and adults who are recovering from heart surgery. That will make anyone feel better faster!
Michelle Martinez, Hulafrog Southwest Valley, UT, & mom of three
Organize a Cookies for Kids' Cancer bake sale at one of the many community happenings this time of year. Ask family and friends to help out and raise money for pediatric cancer research. Giving back never tasted so yummy!
Laurie Malen, Hulafrog National, & aunt of four
Veterans Day is coming up and what a great way to remember by participating in Operation Shoebox. Have your kids help collect small items to be placed in care packages for American troops. Operation Shoebox also takes leftover Halloween candy. Yay!
Carey Zawlocki, Hulafrog National, & mom of two
Trash never takes a holiday! When taking your dog for a walk or stopping by a park, bring along an extra garbage bag. We should all try to leave our neighborhood cleaner than we found it.
Cristin Krokosz, Hulafrog National, & mom of four
Invite your friends and neighbors to join you in donating to Toys for Tots. It helps kids remember the importance of giving to others before they start thinking about what they want for themselves.
Susannah Ferguson, Hulafrog Columbia, MO, & mom of four
Save the date ...November 19 is Family Volunteer Day. GenerationOn has tons of great suggestions for giving back. From health and wellness to environmental projects, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Leslie Len Meis, Hulafrog Pasadena, CA, & mom of two
