MORE DETAILS:

Hi Porter’s Neck families!
Our names are Tara and Lori and we are very excited to bring Porter’s Neck Play House to our area. We both attended UNC Wilmington and have worked and played in the Porter’s Neck area for over 25 years combined. It is a pleasure to bring a safe, fun, learning-encouraged free play center to our area’s families. Between the two of us, we have 5 fantastic children and know the challenges associated with finding a good fit for your families child care needs. We understand the many concerns that come with enrolling your children in a drop in program. Your children's safety and happiness are our utmost concern. At Porter’s Neck Play House we will foster a healthy balance of active play and quiet time, we will encourage artistic self-expression and embolden them with leadership skills through supervised group activities.
Porter’s Neck Play House is unique in that we pay attention to details that keep our “Play House Family” safe, clean and well taken care of emotionally, physically, intellectually and socially, by encouraging group play in many situations.
Lori and I are both quite active in our kids’ schools, churches and involved with many extra circular entities in the area. Lori is one of those ladies that is easy to be around, always cheerful and the kind of person you absorb happiness from just by being near her. She is a chemist and an environmental biologist, a missionary at Port City Community Church and the most involved mom I know. So many children from this community already know and love her. As for myself, I have been a corporate CEO, a restaurant owner, and, for the past seven years, a stay at home mom and substitute teacher. My interests are children, art, reading and advertising. Porter’s Neck Play House is a dream come true for Lori and I, so much more rewarding than running a restaurant or lab!
We expect all children to be respectful of themselves, parents, other children and our counselors. We do not tolerate physical violence, foul language, or bullying. We take pride in our facility and our staff and strive for every child to feel included and enjoy a safe, happy and playful environment. If you should have any concerns or questions we are here each and every day to assist you.
We know that the greatest compliment you can give us is to leave your child in our care. We feel it is a true honor and privilege to watch over your awesome child, and it’s fun too!
Our facility is referred to in the childcare industry as a drop in day care or drop in childcare center. The definition of Drop-in Childcare is a childcare arrangement where care is provided while parents participate in activities that are not employment related, and where parents are easily accessible. The operation must be able to reach the parent by telephone, cellphone or pager, etc. The parent must be able to return to the facility within 15 minutes.
We do not charge a registration fee for drop in services, we just need all of the important info so that we can care for your child. Then once you’ve registered, we just need the child’s legal parent or guardian to sign our policies and guidelines, and our release form.
If you would like to come and take a look around before you drop your child off for the first time, please feel free.
Although the number of kids that we have at any given time is always changing, we do our very best to make sure that we have enough staff on by the use of on-call shifts. Please call ahead during the holiday season and days that schools are closed so that we can plan staffing accordingly. During busy times we cannot guarantee an opening if you have not called ahead.

If you have a small child that may have separation anxiety, it is a good idea to bring a pacifier or lovey to help calm them.
We respectfully ask that you please DO NOT bring other toys from home as they can get lost, cause conflicts among other children or pose a choking hazard.
Children must have a change of clothes and socks to play. Socks are available for purchase at $2 per pair.
